The play Square

The play Square is a deeply personal story about friendship, time, and change that immerses us in the atmosphere of the cabaret show "Attraction 90s."

The production was created by one of today's most acclaimed directors — Marfa Gorvits, a two-time Golden Mask award winner. She has staged productions in Estonia, Norway, Germany, and Israel.

This show brings together a remarkable all-male cast: Maxim Vitorgan, Evgeny Kulakov, Mikhail Umanets, and Ruslan Barabanov. Old friends gather for a virtual reunion to reminisce about their childhood. In recent years, they've all ended up on opposite sides of the barricades. The characters recreate and try to make sense of their shared history. Today, when the world and reality have changed beyond recognition, childhood friends separated by borders are forced to search for justification.

Is it possible to preserve human relationships when everything around is falling apart? Is reconciliation possible when people see life from different perspectives? This documentary drama becomes a multilayered statement about how the personal intertwines with the historical, and how the past inevitably shapes the present.

Square is about us. A play that begins as a memory and ends with that familiar lump in your throat. That moment when you're smiling, but inside there's a quiet, warm ache.
